Mrs. Anne Bernice Hammonds Askew, age 77 of Hope, Arkansas passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 at her home. She was born January 28, 1939 in Vaden , Arkansas to L. H. "Shorty" and Mavine Calloway Hammonds. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church and former owner operator of Smokehouse Barbecue in Hope. Bernice will always be remembered for her great home cooking especially her pies and barbecue holding a special place in everybody's heart. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dorsey Askew Sr., brother Doyle Hammonds, sister Hazel Cathey and sister-in-law Doris Worthey.

Survivors include, three sons; Ott Evans and wife Patricia of Shreveport, Louisiana, Guy Cochran and wife Karen of Sherwood, Arkansas and Chad Askew of Hope, Arkansas, three daughters; Kitty Beard of Dyer, Arkansas, Tina Smith of Hope, Arkansas and Chae Askew of Hot Springs, Arkansas, two brothers; Bodie Hammonds and wife Shirley of Bearden, Arkansas and Don Hammonds and wife Jeannie of Jacksonville, Florida, seven grandchildren; Misty, Brittany, Mason, Keith, Camri, Jayden and Zoey, numerous relatives and friends.

Visitation, 6:00 to 8:00pm Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
