Obituary

Barney Buckana Clemons Jr., affectionately known as Buck, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025. Born in the small community of Hopeville in Calhoun County, Arkansas, Buck was the beloved son of Barney and Lorene Hutchens Clemons. At the age of four, his family moved to Harlow, near Thornton, Arkansas, where he began his education at Thornton High School. The family later relocated to Hope in 1968, where Buck completed his high school education. He pursued higher education at Quachita Baptist University for a year before transferring to Southern State College in Magnolia, where he earned a degree in accounting in 1974. Buck began his career with a small accounting firm in Little Rock and later found his most fulfilling role at the Howard County Children's Center in Nashville, where he worked from 2002 until his retirement in 2018.

A man of faith, Buck trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Thornton at the age of 14. He was a devoted member of Unity Baptist Church in Hope at the time of his passing.

Buck is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Silas and Artie Clemons, and Wesley and Willie Ann Cathey Hutchens, sisters Patsy Jean Reece and Wanda Marie Clemons, brothers Waymon Deane (Buddy) Clemons and Jerry Donald Clemons, and brother-in-law Lamar Reece.

He is survived by his sister Helen and brother-in-law Warren Plyler, brother Wesley and sister-in-law Carlene Clemons, nieces Donna Smith, Kim Dewitt, Stacy Womack, and Amy Gilbey, and nephews Matt Plyler, Andy Clemons, and Kevin Clemons.
