Sergeant/Major BOBBY JOE GRAHAM, 81, of Prescott, Arkansas, retired United States Army, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009, at his home. He was born June 16, 1928, in Nevada County, Nubbin Hill Community, to Sam Bass and Jewel Vesta Cornelius Graham. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Hazel Marie Taylor Graham; Five brothers Major Tilmon, William Coy, Ritchie, Cooper and Jake Graham; One Sister, Nettie Vesta McLelland and One Grandson, Brock Arthur Davidson. SGM Graham entered the Army November 22, 1946. His first permanent assignment was with the Famous First Infantry Division in Frankfurt, Germany. After the Korean War broke out, he volunteered for combat duty and became a member of the Second Infantry Divisions 23rd Infantry Regiment. His company was given the assignment of taking two hills- later known as the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge. During his twenty-four year career, his duty stations included Germany; Fort Riley, KS; Fort Chaffee, AR; Korea; Alaska; Fort Ord, CA; Fort Huachuca, AZ; Norway; and Pittsburg, KS. His last assignment was the Reserve Officers Training Center (ROTC) detachment at Kansas State College where he helped train over 6,000 cadets. Highly decorated during his military career, he received many citations and awards including the Korean Service Medal with three battle stars, United Nations Service Medal, Republic Of Korea Presidential Medal and three Army Commendation Medals. In 1966, he was promoted to Sergeant Major, the highest non-commissioned officer rank. After retiring, SGM Graham returned with his family to Prescott. He was employed with Firestone until his retirement. He was a member of the Prescott Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was most importantly a family man. He is SURVIVED BY: His Mother-In-Law: Flossie Childers, Prescott. Two Sisters: Ruby Maud Arnett and Mona Eason and Bob, both of Prescott. Four Sons: Sammy Graham and Nancy, Mustang, Okla. Billy Graham and Donna, Webb City, MO. Bobby Graham and Missy, Little Rock, Ark. Taylor Graham and Alana, Cabot, Ark. Three Daughters: Sandy Cornish, Prescott, Ark. Linda Davidson and William, Texarkana, Ark. Crystal Campbell and Johnny, Arkadelphia, Ark. And Fifteen Grandchildren, Five Great-Grandchildren, other family members and friends. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 10:00 A..M.
