Charles William Gilbert, 94, passed away on October 23, 2021 in Hope. He was born at Crossroads on September 4, 1927 to Clarence F. And Nola Gilbert. He was a graduate of Guernsey High School and was a veteran of the US Army where he served as Sergeant from 11/20/1950 to 11/26/1952.
Charles William was a farmer and worked as a truck driver for Southern Cement Transport of Okay, Arkansas for 25 years prior to retirement. On June 1, 1952 he was married to his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Lou Roberts. Charles William and Betty had 2 children, Charles W. Gilbert II and Betty Charlene Ort.
Charles William is preceded in death by his wife; Betty Gilbert, his parents; Clarence and Nola Gilbert, his brother; Robert Gilbert, his great-grandson; Luke Easterling, and brother-in-law; Sam Barnett.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his children; Charles (Patricia) Gilbert of Crossroads and Charlene (Randy) Ort of Sherwood, his grand-daughters; Shelly (Chad) Townsend of Crossroads, Krystal (James) Schafer of Fayetteville, and Tara Beebe of Sherwood, his sister; Sue Barnett of Minden, Louisiana, special cousin and caregiver; Misty (Dana) Gilbert, and several special cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Heather Manor for the compassion and care given to Charles William in the last few months.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 26th at a Brazzel Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Old Liberty Church on Wednesday, October 27th, at 2:00 p.m. followed by burial at Westmoreland Cemetery.
