Mr. Charles R. "Jerry" Nelson, age 85 of Blevins, Arkansas passed away, Tuesday, May 5, 2015 in Texarkana, Texas. Mr. Nelson was born October 3, 1929 in Dallas, Texas, to Lee Nelson and Leoma Briggs. He was in the 45th Division in the U.S. Army, served in the special honor guard for Generals, and served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Nelson retired from management at Columbia Sewing Company. Mr. Nelson was a Magnolia police officer for 16 years and also worked for the Dallas police department. He was a member of the Bruce Memorial Methodist Church and was an avid fisherman. Mr. Nelson is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mable Smith Nelson, one son, Garry Ray Nelson, two brothers; Bobby and Preston Nelson, and one sister, Joyce Robertson. Survivors include; one son, Larry Nelson of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, one brother, Jerry Don Nelson of Burleson, Texas, three sisters; Doris McKnight of Arlington, Texas, Veta Osburn of Gainesville, Texas, Patsy Brice of Burleson, Texas, one granddaughter, Tiffany Thompson, husband, Travis, of McKinney, Texas, two great-grandchildren, Griffin and Luke Thompson, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Bruce Memorial Methodist Church, P.O. Box 95, Blevins, Arkansas, 71825. Visitation is 12:00pm-1:00pm Friday, May 8, 2015 at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home. Funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00pm, Friday, May 8, 2015 at Brazzel/Oakcrest Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Teeter officiating. Burial to follow at Washington Cemetery in Washington, Arkansas.
