Dr. Donald Albert Avery, 74 of Little Rock, Arkansas, formerly of Prescott and Arkadelphia, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009,in a local hospital. He was born January 5, 1935, in Prescott, Arkansas, to Ernest Earl and Jessie Permelia Landers Avery. He received his P.H.D. in Physics from Texas A. & M. He was a retired physics professor at Henderson State University having served as Chairman of the Physics Department until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Pine Street Church of Christ, former elder and Sunday School Teacher also. He was a former member of the Arkadelphia Lions Club and American Physical Society; member of the U.S. Army Signal Corp, R.O.T.C. and Army National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Byron Avery. HIS SURVIVORS INCLUDE: His Wife: (of 52 years) Shelby J. Harris Avery, Little Rock, Ark. Two Daughters: Mary Kemp and Tracy, Plano, Texas. Tammy Belin and Eddie, Little Rock, Ark. One Brother: Harold Avery, Prescott, Ark. Two Sisters: Inez Clark, Hot Springs, Ark. Frances Ross and Gene, Prescott, Ark. Five Grandchildren: Clayton Kemp, Preston Kemp, Austin Kemp, Emelia Belin and Maddie Belin and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Pine Street Church of Christ, Arkadelphia, Ark., with Mr. Jim Buie officiating.
