Donald (Donnie) Nixon was born March 19, 1946, to the late Leon and Hazel Nixon in Nevada County, Prescott Arkansas. Donald received his formal education at McRae High School. He attended Red River Technical College and became a skilled mason and welder. He was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church. Donald was employed at Firestone and then Burnes. Donalds last place of employment was at SMI Joist. His hobbies included gun, knife, and coin collecting. He enjoyed visiting his family and friends in the country as well as nature. He was a caring father and giving friend. Donald was inducted in to the U.S. Army on December 13, 1966. Donald was wounded in action while serving in Vietnam with the 4th Infantry Division near Pleiku, on Feb. 12, 1968. Donald received the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars; the National Defense Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart; Expert Rifle and 1st Gunner. On December 12, 1968, he received Honorable Discharge from active duty. Donald was married three times. His recent marriage in 2006 was to Willie Mae (Flowers). In which he accepted children James Van Hook Junior (Prescott AR), Natasha Amerison (Houston TX) and Shaun Van Hook (Junction City KS). In 1977, he married Rebecca (Butler) Nixon to this union a stepson, Kirt Douglas Wainwright (deceased) and sons Phillip Jerome Nixon (Prescott AR) and Don Cornelius Nixon (Prescott AR) were born. In 1968 he married Gloria Dean (Stueart) Nixon to this union, two sons and two daughters were born Donald Steven Nixon (Prescott AR), Trina Louise Nixon (North Little Rock AR), Nicole Cozette Nixon-Simon (Prescott AR) and Patrick ONeal Nixon (Little Rock AR). In December of 1999 he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (a type of blood and bone cancer). He began his treatments at University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UAMS). On August 4, 2010, after having a liver biopsy at UAMS, he suffered internal hemorrhaging causing massive amounts of pain. The Lord answered his prayers and relieved him from his pain and suffering. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Sarah Johnson, Arlinda Gulley, and brothers James and Thomas Leroy Nixon and great grandchild Royisha A. Richard. Donald leaves to mourn his death: wife, Willie Mae (Flowers) Nixon; children, Donald Steven Nixon, Trina Louise Nixon, Nicole (Charles) Nixon-Simon, Patrick (Latrice) Nixon, Phillip Jerome Nixon and Don Cornelius Nixon, James Van Hook Junior, Natasha Amerison and Shawn Van Hook ; 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild; sisters Mary Railey (Prescott AR); Lucy Nixon (Vallejo CA); Wilma McNeil (Atlanta GA); Brenda (James) Sloan (San Diego CA); Iris Carter (San Diego); Lyncola Nixon (Prescott AR); and Norma (Thomas) Nixon (El Centro CA). Those cherishing his memory also include his brothers: Leon (Corrita) Nixon (Fayetteville GA) and John C. Nixon (Prescott AR). A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also mourn. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 14, 2010, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Prescott, Arkansas. Burial to follow in DeAnn Cemetery Prescott, Arkansas.
