Mrs. Ellen Ruth Ann Cumbie Bruce, 92, a life-long resident of Hope, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Heather Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 10, 1918 in Hempstead County, Arkansas, the sixth of twelve children born to Jim and Ellen Cumbie. She was preceded in death by her parents, ten of her siblings, her husband, Lit Bruce in 1976 and her son, Max Bruce in 2001. She was a charter member of St. John United Methodist Church in Hope, Arkansas. Mrs. Bruce was retired from the Sears Catalogue Store in Hope, Arkansas, where she worked the front counter for over 20 years and became affectionately know as Ms. Sears. She was loved by everyone who ever met her and will be remembered as the most loving, giving person anyone ever knew. She is at peace now and is in the loving arms of our God. She will be missed by all and will never be forgotten. Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Ellen Bruce, Texarkana, Arkansas; two grandchildren and spouses, Rebecca and Rick Merriman, Beebe, Arkansas, John and Joanna Bruce, Maud, Texas, one sister and brother-in-law, Dortha Faye and Sam Huckabee, Hope, Arkansas. Also surviving her are four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and four special sisters-in-law, Bobbie Cumbie, Searcy, Arkansas, Inez Cumbie, Benton, Arkansas, Lovena Barber, Loveland, Ohio and Ina Bruce, Wichita, Kansas, as well as numerous other relatives and countless friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at St. John United Methodist Church in Hope with Rev. Joe Miller officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, starting at 10:00 A.M. at the church. Services are under the direction of Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home of Hope, Arkansas.
