Mr. A. Elmer Smith, 80, of Hope, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, in a Little Rock, Arkansas Hospital. He was born in Hempstead County, Arkansas on September 5, 1928 to Albert and Cora England Smith. He was a self employed businessman. Retired farmer, cattleman and poultry farmer and had a produce stand in Hope for numerous years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Hope, Ark.; member of the Hope Lions Club; and a disabled Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by three brothers, James, Rufus and Alfred Ray Smith. HIS SURVIVORS INCLUDE: HIS WIFE: (of 55 years) Helen Powell Smith, Hope, Ark. Charles Smith, Hope, Ark. Four Sisters: Mildred Middlebrooks, Richardson, Texas. Geneva Bowlin, Conway, Ark. Marie Harris, Magnolia, Ark. Virginia, Mulholland, El Dorado, Ark. Four Grandchildren: Jamie Hughes, Ingram, TX. Elizabeth Baggett, Lumberton, TX. Tony Phillips and David Phillips, both of Lumberton, TX.
