Obituary

MR. GORDON BAYLESS, 92 of Memphis, Tennessee passed away Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, following a short illness. He was born in Hope, Arkansas. He was an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Oklahoma Military Academy. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, 702nd Ordiance Company, 2nd Infantry Division, and he served during World War II in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns. After release from active duty, he graduated from Southern Methodist University. He was an Elder and Sunday School Teacher at First Presbyterian Church in Hope, Arkansas. He retired from Weyerhaeuser Lumber Company in 1972 and enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and volunteering at Pike County Historical Society. After moving to Memphis in 2004, he enjoyed gardening, studying the history of World War II, and listening to big band music. He was the devoted husband of Victoria Kathleen Cooper Bayless for 64 years. HIS SURVIVORS INCLUDE: HIS DAUGHTER: Becky Bayless of Memphis, Tennessee. ONE BROTHER: John Barr of Tyler, Texas. ONE SISTER: Ann Spiller of Arlington, Texas. THREE NEPHEWS. GRAVESIDE SERVICES will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 13, 2010, Macedonia Cemetery, Hope, Arkansas, with Rev. Phil McLarty officiating. Burial to follow in Macedonia Cemetery, Hope, Arkansas. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home, Hope, Arkansas.
