Helen Scott VanderGraff passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2009 in Pasadena, Texas. She was born on August 29, 1916 in Prescott, Arkansas. She finished Prescott High School and got her backelors degree from Henderson State Teachers College now Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. During World War II, Helen worked in Arkansas and Florida, helping service members with their transportation arrangements. She worked at the Point Comfort Aluminum Plant near Victoria, Texas and at the Greyhound Bus Station in Houston, Texas. She married William J. VanderGraff, a produce salesman, in Houston and they moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan and worked at Carl Forslund Furniture. Afterwards, she went with him around the country, including to Texass Rio Grande Valley and Bakersfield, California. They ended up settling in semi-retirement in the Alamo Palms RV Park near Alamo, Texas, where she sold tours for Sanborns Viva Tours in McAllen, Texas. After that she lived in the Oak Shadows assisted living facility in southwest Houston, then, the Waterford in Deer Park, Texas and finally, Colonial Oaks at Vista in Pasadena, TX.She was a life-long Methodist. Her last church was Sunset United Methodist Church in Pasadena and a was a long time member of he Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.She is survived by sisters-in-law Rachel Scott of Little Rock and Ruby Scott of Hot Springs, Arkansas as well as nieces Aggie Parse of Little Rock, Arkansas, Margaret Hunter Hayes of Monroe, Louisiana, Linda Bemis of Olathe, Kansas, Ann Algee of Hot Springs, AR, Kay Carnes of Hot Springs Village, AR and Bonny Johnson of Deer Park. Surviving nephews are Sam Scott of Cabot, AR, and Bobby Mabry of Bay City, TX. She also left many cousins, grand-nephews and nieces and countless friends all over the country.Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, April 13, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Prescott, AR. Burial to follow in DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott, AR. Arrangements are by the Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott, AR. Family will receive friends: beginning at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 13, 2009 at First United Methodist Church in Prescott, AR.
