The hand of God reached out and ended the suffering of Mr. Herman Wells Smith, with his family at his side, singing his favorite song. Mr. Smith, 89, a longtime resident of Hope, Arkansas passed away, Friday, March 6, 2009, at his home. Mr. Smith was born in Blevins, Arkansas, June 7, 1919, to Clyde and Polly White Smith. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Armed Forces for 20 years and was employed by the State of Arkansas in its Employment Security Division. He is Survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Goldie W. Smith. Both were devoted to their religious faith through First United Methodist Church, Hope. He was also a member of Century Bible Class and until recent years, was also an active member of the Texarkana Arkansas Eagle's Club. Other Survivors include: Mr. Smith's Sons: Ronald W. Smith and wife, Susan, Benton, Ark. and Tony C. Smith and wife, Kathleen, Natchitoches, La. The Smith's granddaughter, Brooke Smith Casey, resides in Fort Worth, Texas with husband, Shawn. Additional survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; by one brother, Homer Smith; and three sisters, Arlene Kring, Helen Walker and Maxine Hall. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel, Hope, Arkansas, with Rev. Keenan Williams and Dr. Tandy Hanson officiating.
