Mr. Horace Clifford Cox, 87, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011, in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born in Hope Arkansas on Wednesday, April 9, 1924 to Claude Madison Cox and Lela Ann Hulsey. He and Rebecca Jane Hill were married June 14, 1942. They were married for 64 years. He served his country as a member of the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946; honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He served as a control tower operator assigned to Army air fields in Liberal, Garden City, and Independence, Kansas. Later serving in the National Guard of Arkansas. He worked for the J. C. Penney Company most of his life and retired as a buyer after 35 years. Moving from Houston back to his childhood home of Hope, Arkansas. He moved to Nacogdoches, Texas in May of 2009 to be closer to family. He spent his retirement years with his wife enjoying friends, family, singing and golfing. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, where he was active in the choir. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jane Hill Cox, brothers Aubrey, Jennings, Merlin and one sister, Wanda Johnson. He is survived by: Son, Horace Clifford Cox, Jr. and wife Debra Rae of Spokane, WA, Daughter: Rebecca Ann Raines and husband Jack of Nacogdoches, TX, Sister: Sibilla Parris of Hot Springs, AR ; Four grandchildren: Angela Jackson, Dallas, TX; Jennifer Owens, Nacogdoches, TX; Courtney Grauvogl, San Antonio, TX; Aimee Cox, Houston, TX; Six great grandchildren: Payton, Ashton, Sam, Claire, Sophia, and Eron. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June, 6, 2011 at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Glen Tropp will be officiating. Family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home of Hope.
