James Herschel McDonald, 82, died peacefully the second of June, 2013, at home in Northfield, IL, from heart failure. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Amelia Jo Huskey, of Northfield, IL, his two daughters, two sons and seven grandchildren who filled his life with joy. Daughters Amelia Karin McDonald and her daughter Anna Hendrix of New York, NY; and Mary Jo and husband Robert Kims Collins and their children Emma Amelia, Angus Kims, and Marjorie Karen of Kenilworth, IL. Sons James Herschel McDonald, Jr., of Carlton, OR; and John Stuart McDonald and his wife Sheila Raynor and their children James Owen, Allison Linda, and Martin Stuart of Gresham, OR. He is also survived by his two brothers Angus Stuart, Jr., and wife Dorothy of Spring, TX; and Alfred Bateman and wife Ramona of Mountain Home, AR; and sister Mary Jane and husband William Goodwin of Lubbock, TX. Born August 15, 1930, in Smackover, AR, the son of Mary Bateman and Angus Stuart McDonald, Jim was a graduate of Smackover High School, a Chemical Engineering graduate of Louisiana Tech University where he was inducted into Tau Beta Pi, and a graduate of Harvard Business Schools Advanced Management Program. He was a First Lieutenant in the Air Force during the Korean War. Jim spent his career in the oil industry, holding various management positions with the former Gulf Oil Corporation including roles in the US, Asia, and Latin America. He was an active member of National Petroleum Refiners Association. Subsequent to his retirement from Gulf, he served as interim executive and advisor to various oil businesses, later co-founding ATSCON. Jim had strong faith and was a member of the local United Methodist Church wherever he lived, serving in a variety of leadership roles including Treasurer, Board member, and usher. Through his church, he was active in community service, including Habitat for Humanity. A long time resident of Houston, TX, he was a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church. Jim and his wife recently moved to the Chicago area where he was active in the Kenilworth Union Church. His passion was his family, especially his seven grandchildren who brought him great joy and happiness. Jim enjoyed researching about genealogy; reading history and biographies; walking; traveling; and following college football, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks. Visitation will be held with the family on Wednesday, June 5, from 6 to 8 pm at Brazzel-Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope, AR. A funeral service will be held at Sweet Home Church, Blevins, AR, on Thursday, June 6, at 2 pm followed by burial at Sweet Home Cemetery.
