Mr. James R. Kaufman, 85 of Cross Roads passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at his home. Mr. Kaufman was born, Saturday, December 5, 1925 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, the third son of William Albert Kaufman, Sr. and Lena Inez Tobey Kaufman. Mr. Kaufman was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army Air Force in the Pacific Ocean Area with the 98th Bomb Squadron, 11th Bomb Group, 7th Air Force and with the 8th Air Force when it was moved to Okinawa from Europe in preparation for the Japanese Campaign. He was awarded The Air Offensive Japan Ribbon and the Air Offensive China Ribbon. He was also awarded the World War II Victory Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and Three Bronze Stars. He was retired from the John F. Kennedy Space Center, NASA after 31 years of Civilian Service with the Army, Air Force and NASA. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bonnie Jo Gilbert Kaufman, a son, James Larry Kaufman and Shela, one brother, Edwin Earl Kaufman of Sulphur, Louisiana, two grandsons, Daniel Drew Kaufman of Hope, Christopher Adam Kaufman and Tiffany and Great-grandson Joshua Larry Kaufman all of Bossier City, Louisiana, two grand-daughters, Amanda Whisenhunt and Joel, Great-grandchildren Hadyn, Loren and Caleb, Emmy Bailey and Danny and great-grandchildren Kristina and Dustyn. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother William Albert Kaufman, Jr. and a sister, Peggy Jean Kaufman Dickson. After moving back to Arkansas in 1981 he and Jo became active in maintenance of the Westmoreland Cemetery in Crossroads and the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives in the Washington, Arkansas and creation of the Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department. Family to receive friends, 4:00 to 6:00pm, Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home of Hope. Graveside service will be 2:00pm, Monday, April 25, 2011 at Westmoreland Cemetery.
