Mr. Jerry D. Hughes, age 71, of Hope, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013, at his home. He was born on October 24, 1942, in San Francisco, California, to William Hardy and Lillie E. Beard Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a drill press operator at Cox Foundry in Hope since 1972 and a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church. He served his country for two years as a member of the United States Army. Mr. Hughes was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and was a hard worker all of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Farrell Townsend Hughes, two brothers, Darrell Dean Hughes and Leonard Hughes, and a great-grandchild, Layton Jase Strange. Mr. Hughes is survived by two sons, Tim Hughes of Simms, Texas, and Jeremy Hughes of Spring Hill, Arkansas, five daughters, Lisa Shatswell and husband Jerry W. of Texarkana, Texas, Diane Goodgion and husband Vince of New Boston, Texas, Mary Ellen Calhoun and husband David of Prescott, Arkansas, Tiffany McWilliams and husband Jerry of Hope, and Stephanie Cuellar and husband Frank of Hope, a brother, William Harrell Hughes of Prescott, four sisters Verna Mae Allen of Hope, Linda Hughes of Texarkana, Arkansas, Mary Ida Mollette of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Janie Capps of DeWitt, Arkansas, twenty-two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, December 20, at Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home of Hope. Funeral service for Mr. Hughes will be 10:00 am, Saturday, December 21, at the Brazzel/Oakcrest Chapel with Rev. Revel Kidd officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Patmos.
