Mr. John Warren Reynolds, 59, Prescott, Ark., died September 1st, 2008, after a brief illness. Born August 18th, 1949 in Prescott, AR, he grew up in Prescott, playing football for the Curley Wolves and working as deejay Jukin John at the local radio station KTPA. He received his B.A. in Journalism from ASU in 1971, where he served as editor of the Arkansas State Herald and was a proud member of Sigma Pi fraternity. After school, he pursued a career in the newspaper business, serving as advertising manager for the Daily Times Herald in Forrest City and the Wynne Progress. In Wynne, he would garner numerous Arkansas Press Association awards for writing, photography and advertising, including best sports story in 1980. Eventually, he would be named General Manager. He proudly served his community as an officer in Kiwanis; and despite his dry wit and steady calmness, enjoyed participating in community theater productions. He would also raise his family in Wynne, meeting his future wife on assignment after a misunderstanding as to whether he had asked for her number or the number of one of the cheerleaders she sponsored. Later, he would leave a job as publicity coordinator at Eastern Arkansas Community College in Forrest City to return to sports writing, this time at the Newport Daily Independent. He continued to be honored by the APA with awards for best sports feature and best sports column in 1995, and the next year was named publisher of that paper. He always worked harder than most, but longer hours never stopped him from attending all the little league games and school plays back home that he could. He often stayed up long past midnight waiting on his son to clock out of work on Friday nights. In his career, he would also serve as sports editor for the Searcy Daily Citizen and the Daily Siftings-Herald in Arkadelphia. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Reynolds, Jr. Surviving are his mother, Helen Marie Ree Cummings Reynolds, of Prescott; his brother, Robert W. Reynolds III and wife Judi, of Chicago; his sister, Kay Whitehead and husband Raymond, of Magnolia; his son, Anders Reynolds, of Washington D.C.; his daughter, Molly Reynolds; and their mother, Carrey Reynolds, both of Little Rock. A private memorial service was held at 10:00 am, Thursday, September 4th at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home,Prescott, Ark. with Reverend Charlotte Cobb officiating.
