Mrs. Laura Belle Akins Meeks, 99, Prescott, Ark., passed away Mon. July 30, 2007, in Little Rock, Ark. She was born in Nevada County, Ark., to William H. and Josephine Moss Akins. She was a retired teacher of the Prescott School District having graduated from Univ. of Ark. at Pine Bluff (formerly known as A.M. & N College.) She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Prescott, Ark. She had attended the St. Mark Baptist Church, Little Rock and the 2nd Baptist Church in Helena-West Helena. She was the Secretary of the Southwest District Assoc. for 25 years; Sunday School Teacher; Missionary Society; Mother of the Church; Arkansas Teacher Retirement member and AARP member. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Meeks, Sr.; two brothers and one sister. HER SURVIVORS INCLUDE: TWO SONS: Leo Meeks, Jr. (Susie) Prescott, Ark.; Vernon Meeks (Mary) Prescott, Ark. SIX DAUGHTERS: Bettye Meeks Frazier (Noah) Houston, TX; Nell Sample (Lepoleon), Helena-West Helena, Ark.; Josephine Russ (A.W.), San Diego, Calif.; LaFae Glasgow (Deceased-Clifford), Omaha, Nebraska; Sandra McFadden Charles), Little Rock, Ark.; Shirley Garman (Bert), Hot Springs, Ark. ONE GRANDSON: (she raised) Tony Meeks, San Diego, Calif. TWO SPECIAL NEPHEWS: Earl Levester Foster, Prescott, Ark. and Gregory Garmon, in Kuwait, U.S. Army National Guard. AND 26 GRANDCHILDREN, 48 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, AND ONE GREAT-GREAT GRANDCHILD AND A HOST OF NIECES AND NEPHEWS, OTHER RELATIVES AND FRIENDS. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2007, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Prescott, Ark., with Rev. Mickey Manning officiating. Burial will follow in DeAnn Cemetery, Prescott, Ark.
