Obituary

Laverne Barton Mattison of Lewisville, Arkansas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 18, 2022. Laverne just celebrated her 90th birthday. She was born in Emerson, Arkansas on January 23, 1932. Laverne was predeceased by her late husband, James M. Mattison of whom she had been married to for 66 years; her parents, Arthur and Agnes Barton; three brothers, Edward Barton, Floyd Barton, and James Barton; three sisters, Hazel Barton, Mary Jones Campbell, and Shirley Kennedy.


She is survived by her son, Michael M. Mattison of Lewisville, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Stephanie Lewis of Hope, Arkansas, and Matthew Mattison and his wife, Amy of Texarkana, Arkansas; three great-grandchildren, Samuel Elkins, Reed Mattison, and Makenzi Mattison. Laverne is also survived by one brother, John Barton (Patricia) of Lewisville, Arkansas, and one sister, JoAnn Smith of Junction City, Arkansas; and two other special sister-in-laws, Gwen Barton Powell and Elaine Barton of Lewisville, AR; and one brother-in-law, Lawrence Jones; and a great number of nieces and nephews and their families.


Laverne loved her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, her family and friends, and her country, the United States of America. She was a faithful military wife as her husband, James, served in the U.S. Airforce. They lived in many states of America, including Massachusetts, Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina, Florida, Mississippi, and made their home in Arkansas where they retired.


She was a graduate of Lewisville High School. Laverne worked as a nurse at the Lafayette County Memorial Hospital, as well as, the Hope Hospital for many years. She was a very compassionate and kind care giver. She was a long-time member of the Lewisville Assembly of God church. Laverne was a woman of faith and prayer. She leaves a wonderful legacy to her family and friends that she loved dearly. She finished her race well and was faithful to the end.
