Mr. Lee Downs, age 84 of Hope, Arkansas passed away, Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in Texarkana, Arkansas. Mr. Downs was born, Monday, April 11, 1927 in Nevada County, Arkansas to Willie Martin and Lillie Pearl Hendrix Downs. Mr. Downs was a retired newspaper carrier for the Hope Star and Texarkana Gazette with 29 years of service. He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Hope and a US Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jean McBay Downs, two brothers and his sister. Survivors include; his two sons, Hershal Lee Downs, Jr and wife, Tammy of Texarkana, AR, Terry Downs and wife, Angie of Spring Hill; his daughter, Carol Daugherty and her husband, Dale of Hope; two brothers, Arlis Downs of Little Rock and Paul Downs of Nevada City, CA; ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. The Downs Family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00pm, Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home of Hope. Funeral service for Mr. Downs will be 10:00am, Friday, September 2, 2011 at the Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home Chapel in Hope. Bro. Mark Faulkner and Bro. Charles Jones will officiate the service. Burial to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Hope, with Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
