Mr. Marlyn E. Swinney, age 83, of Patmos, Arkansas, passed away at his home, Friday, March 1, 2013. He was born August 27, 1929, in Drew, Mississippi, to J. J. and Gillis Wallace Swinney. They moved to south Arkansas and he grew up in Rye, Arkansas. Mr. Swinney served in the United States Air Force and later worked in the poultry industry before he owned and operated his own trucking business, J & E Litter Company, in southwest Arkansas. Mr. Swinney served as JP for Hempstead County and was a board member of Farm Bureau of Hope. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church of Hope. He was a retired cattle and poultry farmer. Mr. Swinney was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Verna Mae Swinney, sister, Mary Alice, and his first wife, Jimmie Lorene Taylor Swinney. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Young Swinney, one daughter, Donnia Cox and husband Wayne, two step-sons, Charles Bray and wife Bettina and Brandon Bray and wife Tina, all of Hope. Three brothers, Melton Swinney and wife Betty, Wendol Swinney and wife Glenda, all of Rye, and Landol Swinney and wife Barbara of Christ Church, New Zealand, three sisters, Janet Liles and husband Jacky of Searcy, Joy Young of Little Rock, and Betty Chapman and husband Vic of Ashdown, three sister-in-laws, Gearldine Byrd of Rye, Linda McClune of Hope, and Doris Ann Moyer and husband Len of Shreveport, Louisiana, and two brother-in-laws, Floys Taylor of Warren and Louis Buddy Young and wife Diane of McNab. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Jana Robertson and husband Tim, one grandson, Eric Cox and wife Kirsten, four step-granddaughters, Cheyenne and Destiny Collins, Kaycee Taylor, and Mallory Paul, one step-grandson, Cameron Parmer, all of Hope. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Makenzie, Aubrie, and Raegan Cox, and Hunter, Zoe, and Brooklynn Robertson all of Hope. Visitation will from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Sunday, March 3, at Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home of Hope. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Texarkana/Hope, 3605 Jefferson Avenue, Texarkana, AR 71854. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Monday, March 4, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Chapel, with Bro. Glen Tropp officiating. Graveside service and burial will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 5, at Union Cemetery in Rye, Arkansas, with Louis Buddy Young officiating.
