Mary Nelle Thompson, 92, of Hope, formerly of Morrilton, died at Heather Manor Nursing Home on May 4, 2015. She was born to Calvin Adam and Laura Brown Black on September 18, 1922, in Aplin, Arkansas. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Hope and a former member of First Baptist Church, Morrilton, where she was the church secretary for many years, loving and caring for many pastors, youth directors and church members. She was very active in the W.M.U., led the Mission Friends group there and taught Sunday School as well. Along with her husband and some other church members, she helped start the First Baptist Church of Center Ridge, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Guy N. Thompson, her parents, two brothers, Fay Tom and Calvin Black, and five sisters, Beatrice Williams, Edith Purser, Velma Young, Ruth Tucker, and Peggy Hirschey. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judee and Jim Gunter of Hope, one grandson, Guy Royston of Hope, one sister, Freda Cossey of Wynne and two dear sister-in-laws Beth Duncan of Hot Springs and Rhoda Black of Amarillo, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00am on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Harris Funeral Home in Morrilton with Rev. Harry Black officiating. Visitation will take place immediately preceding the service at 9:00. Burial is at Elmwood Cemetery in Morrilton.
