Obituary

Sister Mernella Dixon affectionately known as Mama Nell and Bay by some family member and friends, she was born October 28, 1921 to the parents of Jet and Hattie Brown Snowden in Prescott, Arkansas which also preceded her in death. She departed this life on September 15, 2012 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. Mernella was the 6th child of a union of 14 children. Five brothers preceded her in death, Joe N. Snowden, John Snowden, Herman Snowden, Raymond Snowden and Samp Davis, six sisters preceded her death, Lucy Johnson, Nettie Obgurn, Evelyn Lee, Josephine Obgurn , Gertrude McDaniel and Hattie Snowden and two grandchildren preceded her in death, Skip Dixon and Audray Jean Dixon. On February 16, 1943, she was united in Holy matrimony to Cain Dixon, who also preceded her in death. To this union four children were born. Mernella joined the St. Thomas Baptist Church at an early age, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Usher and a Deaconess. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, E.U. Reed Chapter 216. Mernella Dixon worked at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Prescott, Arkansas for 17 years, from which she retired. Mernella also farmed with her husband and they were known for their sharing nature of the things that grew on their farm. She was devoted to her family, leaving to cherish her memory are four children: Cain Dixon, Jr. of Wichita Kansas, Billy Ray Dixon (Henrietta) of Chicago, IL, Herman Ray Dixon (Louise) of St. Louis, Missouri, Vala Jean Dixon (Dwight) of Prescott, AR, brother; Joe Thaniel Snowden of Texarkana, TX, her two sisters; Emma Lu Washington of Nash, TX, and Verna Simon of St. Louis, Missouri, 17 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. There will be a Wake for Mrs. Dixon, 6:00 to 7:00pm, Friday, September 21, 2012 at Brazzel/Cornish The Funeral Home, in Prescott. Funeral service will be 1:00pm, Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Brazzel/Cornish The Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elizabeth Cemetery, Blevins, Arkansas. Arrangements are by Brazzel/Cornish The Funeral Home of Prescott.
