Otto B. Potter, P.E., age 63, of Hope, Arkansas, departed this life on July 8, 2013, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born November 3, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, the only son of Wretha Nell Potter and the late Walter G. Potter. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna Smith Potter, his mother Nell Potter McAvoy, his daughter, Keri Collier and husband Gary. Four sons, Troy Reed and wife Mandy, Chris Potter, Cody Zepeda and wife Angela, and Kevin Potter. His much loved grandchildren, Kirby Collier and wife Kayla, Chandler Collier, Anna Collier, Dalton Potter, Raley Potter, Jason Potter, Ashley Reed, Sierra Reed, Bailey Reed, Whitley Frederick, LaCole Frederick, Ty Frederick. Great-granddaughters, Avery Zepeda and Kensley Collier. Otto was much loved by his mother-in-law, Louise Hatfield Smith of Hope, as well as his brother-in-law, and true friend, David Smith, also of Hope. Mourning greatly is his best bud, Janie the girly dog, who won his heart. Otto leaves a host of friends and family behind. After graduating from Hope High School, Otto continued his education at Southern Arkansas University and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering. He spent over twenty years as a Professional Engineer for the Arkansas Highway Transportation Department, including seven years as the Resident Engineer in Hope. Otto then joined the City of Springdale, Arkansas as staff engineer for planning and community development offices. Upon his relocation to Hope, he was the Engineer for Construction Materials Testing Services, until the time of his death. Otto mentored numerous younger engineers and was a knowledgeable, sensitive, and entertaining boss. A Gathering of Family and Friends for a time of remembrance and reflections will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 2:00pm, in the chapel of Brazzel/Oakcrest The Funeral Home of Hope. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the SPCA.
