Mr. Pershing McAdoo Cox, age 95, passed away suddenly, but peacefully, on the evening of August 28, 2013, at Wadley Regional Medical Center at Hope. PM was born October 26, 1917, in the Redland Community, east of Prescott, to parents, George Nelson Cox Sr. and Jewel Barham Cox. When Pershings father died in 1931, he was the oldest son of seven children and he became male head of the household at age fourteen. He later served in the Coast Guard and Navy during World War II as a Master Mechanic and participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima and others in the Pacific. He was a farmer at Redland, and worked many years as a homebuilder, with his brother George. Pershing was a member of First Baptist Church in Prescott for over sixty years. Pershing was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 64 year, Mary Hildebrand Cox, brother, Barham Cox, sisters, Glendene Haynie, and Hazel Powell. Pershing is survived by his brothers, George N. Cox, Jr. and wife Joy of Prescott, Arkansas, Charlie Cox of Ashdown, Arkansas, sister Mary Jewel Powell and husband Rayburn of Conway, Arkansas. PM will be greatly missed by his four children, Ann Wylie and husband Dale of Hope, Arkansas, Danny Cox of Prescott, Arkansas, Michael Cox and wife Connie of Camden, Arkansas, and Cathy Straley and husband Beau of McKinney, Texas, as will as twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, two special caregivers, Lakesha and Malinda, and a large extended family of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Visitation for Pershing will be 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 1, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott. Funeral service for Pershing will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 1, at the Brazzel/Cornish Chapel, with Bro. Frank Henson and Bro. James Cox officiating.
