Obituary

MR. RALPH D. SON PHILLIPS, 85, of Blevins, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, December 4,2008 at Medical Park Hospital, Hope, Ark. He was born on July 1, 1923, in Nevada County, Ark., to Claud Addison and Gladys Vaughn Phillips. He began working at age 17 in the Texas oil fields, just as his father before him. In 1956, he founded DeVaughn Oil and Gas Co., Fort Morgan, Colorado, which,in 1962, merged into Morwell Oil and Gas Co., Fort Morgan, Colorado. In 1968 he sold all interest in his oil companies and started Black Creek Farms, Blevins, Arkansas, breeding thoroughbred horses. This was his love and passion until his death. He was also an Army Veteran of World War II having been a member of the 250th Field Artillery Group. His Company was the first Company through the gate which liberated Dachau Prison Camp and one of the first Companys into Paris. His company received awards of five battle stars and he himself received a purple heart. He was a member of Prescott Lodge # 80, Free and Accepted Masons, The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association, the Arkansas Thoroughbred Breeders Association and the V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife Mary Mavis Phillips, who died in 2005; and by two sisters, Thelma Warnken and Annie Lee Tinsey Brotherton. HIS SURVIVORS INCLUDE: ONE NIECE: Gladys Turner, Blevins, Ark. ONE NEPHEW: Robert H.Bob Brotherton, Sheridan, WY. CELEBRATION OF LIFE MEMORIAL SERVICES will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home Chapel, Prescott, Ark., with Rev. Josh Steed officiating. Cremation has taken place and a private burial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home, Prescott, Arkansas. FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS: Tuesday, December 9, 2008, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home, Prescott, Arkansas. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, MEMORIALS may be made to: Marlbrook Cemetery Fund, 5704 Hwy 371, Blevins, AR 71825.
