Mr. Richard Whitehurst "Dick" Broach, 69, Hope, Arkansas, left to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at Medical Park Hospital, Hope, Arkansas. He was born on December 3, 1938, in Hope, Arkansas, to R. L. and Cornelia Whitehurst Broach. He joined the Methodist Church at an early age and has been a life-long Methodist. He became a born-again Christian in his adult life and served the church according to Gods calling. He attended public school in Hope, was a graduate of Henderson State University, and a Marine Corp Veteran. Dick enjoyed a life-long love affair with the outdoors and it was only natural that he pursue a career in wildlife and fisheries conservation with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. He worked for the commission for 32 years and is probably best known in conservation circles for his work in the Cache River Basin with natural resource agencies and organizations involved in saving the Cache from large scale drainage projects. He received the Water Conservationist of the Year Award in 1976 as presented by the Arkansas Wildlife Federation. Following retirement, he devoted his time to management of the familys timberland resources. He served on the board of the Arkansas Wildlife Federation and on the Yellow Creek Corporation Board. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; by two aunts, Elise Broach and Kathleen Broach. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at First United Methodist Church, Hope, Arkansas, with Rev. Ron Eldridge, Rev. Keenan Williams and Dr. Tandy Hanson officiating.
